  Questionmark Connectors Integrating with uPortal

Integrating Questionmark Perception with uPortal

Overview
Portals are institutional faces to the Web that conveniently organize and present the most needed resources and applications, offer tailored communications, and provide collaboration facilities for organizational members. Portals enable enterprises to provide a single sign-on for various personalized productivity tools and information systems. Organizations can customize portals to present information in digestible dashboard views and easy access to the systems that are most appropriate for that user.

uPortal is an open source initiative of JA-SIG. It is free and downloadable, and designed for educational institutions. Participating educational institutions can then customize uPortal for their needs. There are also a number of organizations that offer commercial products and services for use with uPortal. For more information, see www.uportal.org

How it Works
The integration of Perception with uPortal makes it possible for participants to view and launch assessments from a “portlet” within their organization’s portal. The integration provides:
  • Single sign-on for users through uPortal
  • Easy access to Perception Assessments
  • Use of the features of uPortal to customize placement and appearance of the assessments

By integrating Questionmark Perception with uPortal, assessments scheduled for a user can be displayed in a portlet. When the user views that portlet – wherever the portlet designer has integrated it into their uPortal implementation – the logged-in user sees a list of the quizzes, tests, exams and surveys that have been scheduled for them.

Clicking on one of the assessment links launches the assessment for the participant. When the assessment is completed, the participant’s results are stored within the Perception database for future analysis, and the participant can be provided any appropriate feedback.

Web portals make it easy to combine Perception with other best-of-breed applications to create customized information and activity centers to suit many different types of institutions and situations. Once they have logged on to the portal, participants can move freely from one activity to another. Now learning events and assessments can be part of someone’s daily routine without having to log into a specialist system.

Questionmark Partner: Unicon
The integration is the result of a partnership between Questionmark and Unicon, a provider of enterprise portal, collaboration, learning, and integration technology for higher education institutions and the leading commercial supporter of the uPortal open source Web portal initiative. Unicon's Academus® is a pre-configured enterprise portal solution for educational institutions based on the uPortal platform.
